Three posts to write when you feel stuck.
Some weeks the content just won't come. The calendar's empty, the brain's tired, and the last thing you want to do is open Instagram and pretend you've got something to say. Sound familiar?
You don't need a content strategy overhaul. You need three reliable post structures you can pull off the shelf when nothing else feels possible. Here they are.
1. The "behind the scenes" post
The easiest post to write because it requires zero invention — you literally just show what you were already doing today. A site visit, a packing run, a Tuesday in the studio, a customer enquiry that made you smile. The unfiltered, unstaged stuff.
Why it works: people follow small businesses because they want to feel connected to a real person, not pitched at by a brand. A behind-the-scenes post is the fastest way to give them that without overthinking it.
"Today's [task / quiet moment / surprise]." Then one sentence about what's actually happening, and one sentence connecting it to your work.
2. The "honest answer" post
Pick one question your customers ask all the time and answer it properly. Not the polished sales answer — the real one. The one you'd give over coffee.
Examples we see work over and over:
- "How much does X cost?" — give a real range, even a rough one
- "How long will it take?" — be honest, even if it's longer than they hoped
- "Why is this more expensive than [competitor]?" — explain what's actually different
- "Is this right for me?" — be honest about who it's not right for
Why it works: nothing builds trust faster than a small business that talks straight. Sales-y avoidance reads as hiding something. Honest answers read as confidence.
3. The "before / after / lesson" post
Show a small win. The fix you made. The mess that became the magic. The client that was nervous and now isn't. Just one thing.
The structure:
- The before: what was happening, what was hard, what wasn't working
- The after: what changed, what got fixed, what the win looks like
- The lesson: the small idea your audience can take away from it
Why it works: it's a tiny case study without calling itself one. It shows your skill without bragging. It teaches without lecturing.
You don't need a new idea every week. You need three reliable shapes that fit your business — and the discipline to actually post them.
Print this list out, honestly
Stick it on the fridge. Or your desk. Or wherever you panic-open Instagram from. The next time you're stuck, you don't need inspiration — you need a starting point. Pick one of three. Write the first sentence. The rest comes.
